For the record I'm neither republican nor democratic nor am I an extremist on either side I am simply a christian and vote and view as such. Having said that it has been proven by nature (research Alaska for example) that we are. If we do not cut back on our pollution and I mean dramatically (factories,housing,transportation..etc.etc) we (the world) will be in catastrophic danger by 2040 this is no exaggeration it simply is what it is. When it comes down to it the issue really isn't important and becomes a question really. Do we know pollution is harmful ? Is it safe to fall asleep to the soothing sound of an idling engine in an enclosed garage? Now think of that on a much grander scale. Is it really asking to much of us to cut back? Might it not make for an exciting challenge?

Hmm... is it significant that the deniers are found mostly on extremist political sites, and those who say it's happening are mostly scientists?

BTW, I think scientists would generally agree that "some dire predictions push science too far." Of course they also acknowledge that warming is a fact, and that humans are at least in part responsible.

That screaming headline was just a bit of misdirection.

No I meant the single greatest entity that was a contributor of CO2 in 2006 within the united states. hint, its in the Pacific Northwest.

Kellys,

you say we will be in catostrophic danger in 2040 if we don't curb our emissions....what exactly do you think will happen by then? and where did you get that information?

The suspense is killing us, what is it? Also, what about methane produced by livestock, specifically cows?

Methane is also a greenhouse gas, and cow belches (not flatulence, as some incorrectly assumed) do contribute to global warming. The large increases in cattle herds around the world do contribute to some degee. Roughly one-tenth of the Earth's annual production of methane is due to domesticated animals.

This is significant because methane is a more efficient greenhouse gas than carbon dioxide.

Has anyone here read Crichton's State of Fear? Its a novel, true. But he has a ton of footnotes from scientific journals supporting his contention that global warming is much ado about nothing.

For all I know, he's spouting hot air. He could even be making up the footnotes. I don't even pretend to be a scientist ... though I'm certainly not going to rely upon Al Gore's vaunted expertise, nor his amazing reputation for objectivity!

Consider the following two articles from Time Magazine.

June 24, 1974

March 26, 2006

And THIS is why I doubt the "experts". Am I being unreasonable?
